Bensoul, whose real name is Benson Mutua Muia, is a Kenyan songwriter, singer, producer, music director and entrepreneur. He was the first signee of Sol Generation. He was born on 4th March 1994.

Bensoul Family
Bensoul was raised by a single mother.
His father was an electric and bass guitar player, hence the exposure.
He has an older sister with a 13-year age gap between them.
Bensoul Education
Bensoul received his primary education at Embu Urban Primary School located in Embu, Kenya.
For his secondary education, he attended Kagumo High School located in Kiganjo, Nyeri, Kenya.
He later joined the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) located in Nairobi, Kenya.
He pursued Civil Engineering, but later dropped out to focus on his passion of music.
Bensoul Musical Journey
Bensoul started doing music professionally in 2013.
He wrote his first song in high school while he was still the pianoist and also used to direct the school choir.
He got his stage name, Bensoul, from his teacher, who told him that he sings with too much soul.
Bensoul comprises of the first three letters of his first name, BENSON, and SOUL.

He taught himself how to play instruments such as the piano and the guitar through observations and YouTube tutorials.
He later met the Kenyan trio group ‘H_art the band,’ and became their bass guitar player and music director.
He later lived with them in Kayole, Nairobi.
On 25th November 2016, H_art the band released a song together called Masheesha featuring Bensoul.
Bensoul has written songs for Kidum, Sauti Sol, Nyashinski, Benpol, Bien, Band beca, Nviiri the Storyteller among others.
Sol Generation
Bensoul was the first signee to Sol Generation Records.
Sol Generations Records is a record label owned by Sauti Sol, a Kenyan Afropop band comprising of Bien, Savara, Chimano and Fancy Fingers.
His official debut song, titled “Lucy,” was released on February 26th, 2019.
Qwarantunes (EP)
He then released his debut EP, dubbed ‘Qwarantunes’, on May 29th, 2020.
It was released under Sol Generation Records.
The EP contained 4 solo tracks, namely:-

“Well, I will just say this…I met him during the Oktobafest. I think it was on 31st October, and now I am three months pregnant as of the end of February. You can do the math and see whether the pregnancy was a result of a one-night stand or not. Our baby is not a product of a one-time thing.”

- 2021 Grammy Awards
Bensoul, alongside Bien, won a Grammy Award as songwriters for their contributions to Burna Boy‘s album, Twice As Tall.
The album won the Best Global Music Album award at the 63rd Grammy Awards in 2021.
Bien and Bensoul co-wrote the song “Time Flies” on the album, which featured Sauti Sol.
